Looking Up!

So my luck seems to be on the up since my past few days of unluckiness! I just found out that the kind of insurance I had on my camera was 'old for new' insurance, and because the screen was so ruined they're going to just replace it rather than trying to fix it, and they're going to replace it with the newest model! I have to pay the excess but it won't be much, I'm just so happy that I'll be getting it replaced, and even happier that it'll be a newer model! And today, I'm ordering my new tv and internet package and have managed to save a good chunk off of it with a virgin media promotional code a friend sent me - brilliant! So I'm having a pretty good day so far, let's see what happens for the rest of this week! Photo: tim geers (Flickr)
I was at a concert last night, and look what happened to my lovely camera!

I didn't drop it or stand on it or anything, it was literally in my backpack but there was a bit of a squash at times as the gig venue was packed to capacity, so it must've pressed up against something else, and now the screen is cracked!
I might be able to get it fixed on my insurance, and then I seriously need to buy a camera case for it. Not a little flimsy bag, but one of those harder camera cases to actually protect it against stuff like that.
If I have to pay for it to be fixed I'm not going to be happy, I don't mind paying the excess but not the full whack!

What is it?

I've been asked to get one of these online for my nephew, an R4i card or cartridge or something. I know it's for a Nintendo DS handheld games console, but I can't actually figure out what it does! It's like a game cartridge, but it's not a game, and it comes with a memory card inside it. Is it for backing up games or creating files or what? I don't get it. Maybe for storing photos? But then why would you need a 8GB or 16GB micro tiny miniscule memory card, that's a lot of memory right there. I may not understand what on earth it does, but hey, my nephew wants it, so I'm sure he has an idea what to do with it, I'm just the delivery man! Photo: TheCX (Flickr)
I didn’t realise how important business continuity was to a business. What it basically ensures, that if something happened to a company all their details, files etc are all saved elsewhere so the business can carry on. I didn’t think that business had a back-up plan like that. I knew obviously that things are copied as if for example there was a fire then everything would be lost. But there is an actual strategy that a business puts in place with a team of people to ensure that there is a back up. It also ensures that everyone that needs access to the business system does. So suppliers, regulators and customers can access details and parts of the business easily and hassle-free. Picture: etftrends.com
I was reading an investor guide recently for money-making tips and other finance-related bits and bobs, and came across an article that listed the top ten highest paying careers.
What was great news for me, was that four of the ten careers were in finance, the industry that I am studying and moving into. They were Accountant, Actuary, Stockbroker and Banker. Accountancy had the lowest starting salary at £17k, while others started around £30-35k, but they all have earning potential of £100k+, and if you include bonuses, especially for bankers, the money brought in could be huge!
I don't really want to be a 'banker' as such, my real passion is in stock-broking, I just love the pace of it and I'm great with numbers and with people, so I know I'll be great at it. Hopefully once I'm done studying I'll get snapped up by a company like Rowan Dartington for my on-job training to help me make it big!
